Termux can be SSHed into

TIL: I can see my Android devices like servers

On my backup spree, I was preparing to back up my phone and tablet. Problem is, getting the files off of them can be a bit of a chore… And for chores I point Claude at it and see if it can figure things out. So I tried to point Claude Code at it, but the problem is it needs SSH access to do useful things. But turns out that isn’t really a problem, because sshd on Termux over port 8022 is a thing!

It seems like it can even reach me through my Tailnet, which could be useful if such a scenario ever came up, but for now I used it to ask for rsync. Thankfully my LAN isn’t slow — Wi-Fi 6 router, laptop plugged in via gigabit Ethernet, and my phone is… I can touch my router from where I’m at, so it is very close. Which means surprisingly fast transfer speeds, stably over 60 megabytes a second.

Anyways, this does open up a bunch of opportunities on making Claude do stuff on my phone, especially with the Termux API, but for now — backups. It’s going pretty well, I suppose! Aside from that one SSD that still needs recovering.
