Catastrophic data loss
Make sure you actually back up things
A bit awkward after blogging about my VPS fleet, but - one of them died. Apparently a RAID rebuild failure, and it was a cheap provider so no snapshots. That means catastrophic data loss, the first one I’ve had of this scale. Well, that’s not a fun experience…
I signed up for Backblaze B2, which means I should be able to hold the most important backups in more places (actually making three copies!). And I’m in the process of getting a new VPS reprovisioned, setting up various things that failed alongside the VPS… basically, disaster recovery.
If my posts get a bit shorter or skip a day or two, you can probably guess what I’m doing in my free time… wish me luck, and if it hasn’t yet been absolutely drilled into your brain: back your stuff up.
