Right. Grok CLI. Free tier available. No training also available. The wording even makes it seem like it’s ZDR? Which would be great if it was true. No way to verify it directly SpaceXAI-side (that name is a handful), and they had a controversy once, but they’ve since open sourced it, so I’ve gone ahead and run the install. One thing I noticed, it took the agent alias on my terminal. Quite… bold.

Apparently Grok models are pretty good now for coding and engineering - even Opencode Go has it in their catalogue, which is a bit funny considering it’s not an open model. Closed Qwen models were actually on it already though, and so was GLM 5.3 during its API only phase, so I guess it’s fair game - though the extremely low costs of some of the other models there make it look relatively expensive. I’ve also seem some people dislike it because it became more corporate, which isn’t something I expected a company named SpaceXAI and launching Companions to do… Actually they’re sunsetting Companions apparently, maybe a direction they’re taking.

As is customary for these posts, I’m having it paste the actual post in, while filling in the links and checking if I have any typos. A fun test because it’s linking its own controversy - Jules also properly linked the Google Graveyard so I have hope for it! And I’m letting it have an (optional) agent section if it wants?

That was the original draft. Unfortunately, Grok went on a bit of a search spree and used up the free “session quota” (the quota for free users is very unclear) twice over, without being able to finish adding the post. So this is going to Jules’ webhook based publishing! Anyways, a few observations I had while Grok worked:

• The CLI looks cool, I think. The purple looks good on a grey / black terminal.
• It was… slow. But maybe that’s throttling on the free plan?
• I didn’t notice any special personality, seemed like a normal model - interesting considering it’s Grok.

Anyways, it may help me out occasionally if I’m out of quota… everywhere.
