On running Claude overnight
A usage session is shorter than my sleep
Claude “session usage” resets every 5 hours. Which is shorter than my sleep, and hopefully most people’s. This means “while I am asleep” is a very good time to run things! (As long as you have weekly quota left over which is not a given, I did once manage to hit 100% weekly used a while back.)
The main way to do this is scheduled jobs, either locally (ask Claude to schedule stuff) or in the cloud via CC routines, and recently Cowork on Web. And quota-axi allows the agent to view exactly when the quota will reset. So combining that, you could start a job at ~10PM, have the agent wait until ~3AM when quota resets, kick off a token intensive job (dynamic workflows?), and have the session quota reset at 8AM. And then you can immediately do more!
I’m using this to do fun stuff at night while leaving quota for me to… recover things in the morning. Because it might be best to at least glance over an agent trying to recover a wiped server and back things up! On a related note I found a bunch of not-backed-up files on external hard drives. They are transferring right now as of writing. Please back your stuff up.
